The 2001 - 2002 Castaways
Survivor Tribes are striving to exhibit our four core characteristics: developing Communication skills , building team / interpersonal Cooperation, honing Calculation methods, & to strengthen each student's Contemplation skills by using critical thinking . Week 30 We have a winner! Congrats AG on a solid effort on Meyer Island! Congratulations also to EB was an outstanding citizen, and a worthy opponent and runner-up. 2001-2002 Final Survivor! Runner Up! Weeks 28 & 29We are down to the final two! Who will be the Final Survivor of the Year? Week 27Week 26Week 25Week 24Week 23Week 22Week 21Week 20This is the last week in 3rd Quarter. We've gained a new student this quarter (T2), and thus we need to get our remaining castaways down to a manageable number (9). Thus we have the last random castaway, ABr. She is always "horsing" around, but she made it quite far! The first opportunity to vote found two best friends trying to get each other voted off. By chance, or good fortune, the vote ended up in a tie. In the spirit of friendship a tri-pack leader was proposed and they all agreed it was for the best. Congrats to DB & KW in mending their friendship & becoming our newest castaways!
Week 19DGil was this week's castaway. There is only one more week left in 3rd quarter. He is one of the last random castaways. Congrats DGil!
Week 18The random castaway this week turned out to be CG. The March Madness unit continues to roll / bounce along. Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered their valuable time to assist us in the classroom! Congrats CG!
Week 17The inevitable finally happened, the random stick drawing strategy of JK that landed BTT on the castaway log has backfired and in a suspenseful three way tie, prior votes determined this week's PLOTW! Congratulations JK!
Week 16Once again, randomness of the last stick in the jar determined with Survivor would join the Castaways. It was fate. He has been such a positive leader within the classroom that he deserves the lucky # 16. Congratulations to KK!
Week 15The randomness of assigning a pack leader continues as MJ, oh MJ, has been named our newest pack leader. If only that MWL had been signed & returned his name wouldn't have been put back into the pot. Half of the Meyer Island Castaways down, half to go! Congratulations MJ!
Week 14"Ten minutes of Mayhem" was a series of bad choices by the class. Consequences resulting from this unfortunate incident include the random selection of the Pack Leader for the foreseeable future. All immunity challenges are also put on hiatus. The Pack Leader this week is RL! Congrats to the Copper tribe member!
Week 13The second of our four spelling bee's took place over a two day period. It came down to three girls, one each from Bone, Orange, and Barney tribes. The final two castaways zoomed through word after word, and chapter after chapter when MP, last week's castaway pulled out the victory with grit, determination, and tenacity. Congrats Bone group on immunity this week! The random castaway this week was AB, congratulations on being this week's Pack Leader!
Week 12The inevitable finally happened. Following the re-organization of the former Carolina, Royal, Teal, Maroon, & Golden Rod tribes into Bone, Barney, Orange, Copper, & Pink tribes, MP was voted out. Immunity was a scavenger hunt, which Orange won in a record 27 seconds. It seems an alliance of former tribe members went after two previous "Carolina" members. MP drew the short straw this week. No more rice for this castaway.
Week11The immunity challenge this week was taken from the Survivor television show. A member of each group was seated at a table where they had to maintain contact with the totem. The member from Golden Rod, JM who was voted off last week, took the easy pay-off of a large stack of cookies. Carolina's member lasted over two hours until his hand slipped. Teal's member also made a mistake of taking off her hand. It was then a contest of wills between KK of Royal Blue and CN of Maroon. Each castaway wouldn't yield. The contest went through the morning, into lunch, DEAR time, and finally gym. The contest was ruled a draw and both teams got immunity! It was bad news at the Golden Rod tribe, their second to last remaining member, GM, was eliminated in a random voting tribal council.
Week 10Well, our one and only castaway who really wanted to get voted off, got his wish. The master-plan of convincing people to vote for him had worked up until this week, when Golden Rod lost the hockey immunity challenge. A hard round robin series of games resulted with the short-handed Golden Rod being the only group to not win immunity. Congratulations JM!
Week 9Our PLOTW was the victim of a major misconduct call. His fellow survivors were aggressive in getting him into the penalty box as PLOTW. Have a Coke and a smile! Congratulations MF!
Week 8In the words of one of the remaining islanders, ALLIANCE. Is a team alliance? gender? Spartan? Any way you look at it, another Wolverine goes down. I guess Operation Buckeye 2 was a tremendous success in more ways than one! Week7Ah, the success of an islander who actually wanted to get voted off, I think that it has something to do with the coke and candy bar. Another big U of M fan goes down. Conspiracy? Week 6It was a close race this week between members of the Royal Blue tribe. However, an incident during Friday swayed the vote from an obvious class member who wants to be voted off, and the two Royal Blue tribe members. Week 5Deja vu? Randomly selected, the castaway this week was bummed to learn of her ouster, since she was absent on Friday. Congrats to KJ. She'll make a fantastic Pack Leader! Week 4The first of the U of M fans has been shown the door. The antics of our many Wolverine fans are catching up with them when it comes to tribal council. Congrats and enjoy the Coke & candy bar! Week 3Randomly selected, the castaway this week was bummed to learn of her ouster, since she was absent on Friday.
Week 2The immunity challenge for week two of Survivor Challenges found students applying their knowledge of skyscrapers (from the Building Big video & website research) to build the tallest structure they could using only two sheets of loose leaf and a sheet of construction paper. Many groups had good ideas, but students learned the value of communication and cooperation in building a successfully freestanding structure. Royal Blue won immunity by talking, thinking, and then by "doing." The students were extremely "chatty" on Friday, thus they lost the opportunity to vote and an act of randomness led to another of our castaways becoming Pack Leader of the Week.
Week 1The first immunity challenge for the castaways found groups participating in an eight legged race. Each group worked together carefully, but Maroon was able to capture their flag and return to the finish line. In fact, they were the only group to complete the race! Congratulations on the excellent use of cooperation. Voting was drawn out over a few days and we have our first Pack Leader of the Week.
